Borough of Upper Saddle River Notice to Residents: Bears

The State Division of Fish and Wildlife has determined that it is normal for black bears to be living in Bergen County; they are part of the wildlife.

Some rules residents should abide by are:

1) Garbage should be put out for pick-up in the morning, not the previous night.
2) Garage doors should be kept shut, especially if garbage or food is stored in garage.
3) Bird seed in a birdfeeder attracts bears.
4) No food should be eaten in areas where children play, such as playgrounds.

To report a bear sighting call the local police (201) 327-2700 or call the public number (877) 927-6337.
